China-Europe freight train (Shanghai) aims at the high-value market, insists on market-oriented operation

Minhang Station of Shanghai Railway Freight Center has a container yard of about 60,000 square metres, which can neatly stack about 1,000 containers loaded with high value-added goods such as photovoltaic modules, LCD panels, motorcycles and elevators.

On September 28, 2021, the China-Europe freight train(Shanghai) fully loaded with 50 containers of export goods departed from Minhang Station, loaded with goods such as garments, shoes and hats, glassware, auto parts, precision instruments, etc., passed through Alashankou Port, Malaszewicze Port, after two track changes, reached Hamburg, more than 10,000 kilometers away. This is the first “Shanghai” train.

By the end of June 2023, in less than two years, the total number of China-Europe freight train(Shanghai) has reached 117, loaded with 11,786 TEUs of containers, with a total cargo weight of about 97,000 tonnes and a value of about 3.7 billion yuan(471 Mio. EUR).

Wang Jinqiu, chairman of Shanghai Oriental Silk Road Multimodal Transport Co., Ltd, the platform company for the China-Europe freight train(Shanghai), believes that as a source of goods and consumer brands, a manufacturing base and the first showcase for imported products, Shanghai has a great demand for import and export, and there are more channels for selecting customers. Customers have high quality requirements for transportation, and railway transportation is just to fill this gap.
