On 1 August, a China-Europe freight train carrying 55 containers of Geely vehicles left Changsha North Freight Yard for Moscow, Russia, via the Tongjiang-Nizhneleninskoye railway bridge. The total weight of the goods is approximately 287 tonnes and the value reaches US$4.29 million. This is the first freight train from Hunan Province to cross the China-Russia railway bridge and Tongjiang Port.
Since the operation of the first China-Europe freight train in Changsha in 2014, the railway transportation from this station has developed rapidly. From January to July 2023, a total of 491 westbound and eastbound trains have been operated, with an average annual increase of 135%. With the help of the Hunan freight train, more and more of Hunan’s local products have been exported.
Recently, Russian Railways announced that the Nizhneleninskoye-Tongjiang Bridge will start container rail services. It is expected that there will be a weekly train from China to Russia via the bridge. Until now, the bridge has mainly been used to transport bulk goods such as coal.
