Recently, a rail freight train carrying refrigerated containers loaded with 17 tonnes of pomelo left the Jiangyin Port Station in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, and is expected to arrive in Moscow on 10 April.

This cold chain logistics service provides an international transport channel for the export of high-quality agricultural products from Fuzhou and surrounding areas.

“Previously, our fruit and vegetable products had to be transported by rail or truck to Chongqing, Chengdu and other places, and then transported by cold chain train to Moscow, which is expensive and time-consuming.” Mr Xu, the manager of the cargo owner, introduced, “Now Fuzhou starts the rail freight cold chain transport services, as we have calculated, it not only saves transport time, but also reduces the cost of freight”.

With refrigerated containers and automatic temperature control functions, the cold chain transport could be remotely managed and adjusted. Fuzhou’s fresh fruit, vegetables and chilled products such as squid and eel, which are popular in overseas markets, could be exported with lower freight costs and transport time.

Since the China-Europe (Fuzhou) freight train started operating in July 2022, it has been running regularly and, according to preliminary statistics, has made a total of 30 trips, carrying 2,836 TEUs of goods. In the first three months of this year, four trains were operated, carrying 440 TEUs of goods.
